When Sarah, from ‘Sarah and Sorrentino’ got in touch to ask if I would like to do the hair styling and makeup for her new swimwear collection, I was extremely excited. Sarah is a fashion designer specialising in swimwear and beachwear. Her fabulous prints are bold and she mixes geometric shapes with florals in bright colours.
Shooting fashion is pretty rare for me as I tend to do more lifestyle and advertising work in Bristol. There’s not a huge fashion industry in the west country so I generally don’t have this opportunity as much as I would like.
When I met Sarah, we realised we actually already new each other from working on feature films together in London. It was great to catch up and I find Sarah a very talented and inspiring person.
What I loved most about the shoot was the creativity of working in a small team with Sarah and Gareth, the photographer. I had a pretty clear idea of what would work with regards to the design of the hair and makeup and familiarising myself with Sarah’s strong visual style and love of colour, I knew the shoot would be a success.
Our fabulous model Renie arrived and I set about styling her hair. I used Babyliss micro crimpers to create more volume on Renie’s long hair. These give an amazing effect and were perfect for the slightly 80’s feel Sarah was going for. I tied her hair in a high ponytail so the swimwear could take centre stage. The makeup needed be be glamorous but beachy. I used a Mac peach tone lip colour, Cover FX bronzer and teamed with smokey eyes. I also used St Tropez body gloss for Renie’s arms and legs, to smooth out her skin tone and add a slight sheen to her perfect bikini body.
I absolutely loved working on this shoot and above all felt really inspired working with such a fantastic team of creatives.
